Paul Alexander has emerged as one of Spyderco's most celebrated and productive designers. His debut non-locking folder, the NAND™, introduced the world to his distinctive "techno-primitive" design style, which elegantly fuses sleek, futuristic lines with timeless simplicity.

Building on this foundation, the COBOL showcases Alexander's unique take on the Ball Joint Non-Locking Mechanism, featuring a more dramatic, Asian-inspired aesthetic. The blade profile combines elements of a traditional Japanese tanto with the katana-style point characteristic of the Americanized tanto. Crafted from high-quality particle metallurgy stainless steel, its sabre-ground primary bevel transitions smoothly into a flat grind at the faceted tip.

At the opposite end of the blade lies an extended "tail," enabling the knife to be opened one-handed, reminiscent of a classic straight razor. The COBOL's handle is designed with solid titanium scales, integrated spring arms, and seated ball bearings. When deployed, the ball bearings align with holes on the sides of the blade, keeping it securely in position. A hand pressure point on the tail of the blade, paired with a generous choil at the base of the edge, ensures a secure grip.

Completing the fully ambidextrous design, the COBOL is equipped with a reversible deep-pocket wire clip, allowing for left or right-side, tip-up carry options.
