Designed by renowned custom knifemaker Ed Schempp, the aptly named Balance serves as a compelling study in symmetry.
When closed, it showcases a compact representation of perfect equilibrium. Once open, it transforms into an exquisitely ergonomic tool, capable of cutting with the authority expected from a much larger knife. Initially introduced in 2010 and later discontinued, this extraordinary design has made a comeback as a limited-edition Sprint Run model.
The Balance features a downturned blade that is full-flat ground from Spyderco's proprietary CPM SPY27 stainless steel, incorporating a generous index-finger choil that offers exceptional control during use. The satin-finished blade is complemented by a distinctive handle, showcasing a stainless steel scale on one side paired with a stainless liner and a peel-ply-textured G-10 scale on the other. The stainless scale is precision machined, creating a robust Reeve Integral Lock (R.I.L.) mechanism, while the G-10 scale is adorned in cobalt blue, one of the signature colours of the CPM SPY27 family.
Both scales are designed with mounting holes to accommodate a reversible stainless steel pocket clip, allowing for versatile carry options for both left and right-side tip-up use.
