British knifemaker Mike Read is renowned for his exceptional craftsmanship in state-of-the-art non-locking folding knives. His inaugural collaboration with Spyderco, the PITS (an abbreviation for “Pie in the Sky,” which is Read’s handle on UK knife forums), has revolutionised this genre.
The PITS 2 pushes this innovation further, featuring a distinctive non-locking mechanism of two integral spring arms expertly machined into the handle scales. As the blade is deployed, the forward end of these arms—responsible for supporting the pivot—flexes to provide pressure against the notched-joint mechanism, resting against the stop pin.
The handle scales, meticulously crafted from solid 6AL-4V titanium with a matte finish, complement a full-flat-ground, satin-finished blade made from Böhler-Uddeholm’s particle metallurgy stainless steel. A remarkable illustration of Spyderco’s SLIPIT™ concept, the PITS 2 boasts a symmetrical design that includes a fully accessible Trademark Round Hole in the blade and a reversible tip-up pocket clip, ensuring that every aspect of carry and operation is entirely ambidextrous.
