The late William F. Moran Jr., widely recognised as Bill Moran, was a revered figure in the knifemaking community. He founded the American Bladesmith Society (ABS) and played a pivotal role in the revival of hand-forged Damascus steel.
In 1995, Spyderco had the privilege of collaborating with him on their first fixed-blade knife, showcasing his distinctive “Featherlight” pattern. To celebrate the 30th anniversary of this model and what would have been Bill’s 100th birthday, a stunning Sprint Run version of the Moran Upswept has been introduced. This special edition features a full-flat-ground blade made from Damasteel’s “Dense Twist™” DS93X™ Martensitic Damascus Patterned Steel.
This exceptional material combines two different hardenable knife steels that have been expertly forged to deliver superior strength, outstanding edge retention, excellent corrosion resistance, and a striking Damascus pattern. The blade is complemented by a fibreglass-reinforced nylon (FRN) handle, injection-moulded in an elegant grey colour and inlaid with black Kraton rubber panels to ensure a secure, non-slip grip. Adding a touch of sophistication, this limited-edition knife is accompanied by a beautifully crafted genuine leather sheath.
This incredible knife serves as a fitting tribute to a true cutlery icon and is sure to become a prized collector’s item.
