CRKT Altai Fixed Blade Hunting Knife
Born of experience in one of the world’s most demanding landscapes, the CRKT Altai is a purpose-built fixed-blade hunting knife designed for life in the field. Inspired by Spartan Precision Equipment founder Rob Gearing’s hunt in Mongolia’s Altai Mountains, the knife combines practical hunting features with distinctive design details influenced by the company.
The Altai features a blade just under four inches in length, providing an excellent balance of control, manoeuvrability and cutting capability. This manageable blade size makes it particularly well suited to field dressing and other detailed tasks where accuracy and control matter.
Crafted from 14C28N stainless steel, the blade offers an excellent combination of toughness, edge retention and corrosion resistance. A durable ceramic coating provides an additional layer of protection against the elements while giving the Altai its purposeful, understated appearance.
Designed for the Field
Grip and control have been considered throughout the Altai’s design. Jimping on the finger choil, blade spine and rear of the handle provides additional purchase and tactile reference, helping maintain a confident grip in wet or challenging conditions.
The lightweight glass-reinforced nylon handle features a carbon-fibre-inspired texture, while signature Spartan head detailing on the handle pins reflects the collaboration behind the design. High-visibility orange accents make the knife and its accompanying tools easier to locate when daylight begins to disappear.
At the rear, a ringed pommel allows for a fast and secure draw, even when wearing gloves, while an additional hole allows attachment of a fob or an alternative retention system.
More Than Just a Hunting Knife
The Altai also incorporates useful features for extended trips into the outdoors. A striking notch on the blade spine works with the supplied magnesium alloy ferro rod, providing a convenient way to generate sparks for fire starting.
An included ceramic sharpening rod allows the blade edge to be quickly touched up in the field, reducing the need to carry additional sharpening equipment.
Everything is carried securely in the supplied thermoplastic sheath, which offers multiple mounting options. Reflective orange paracord is used on the lanyard and tool pulls, making the knife, ferro rod and sharpening rod easier to identify in poor light.
